This hardware kit is so much stronger than the OEM plastic clips. You will need additional grade 8 installation hardware. I wore out 4 sets of bolts during the process. This is NOT for the faint of heart. You will need to take a power drill to the truck to open up the holes for the inserts to fit. Go slow when you install this kit so you don’t mess up your truck! It’s worth it though.

As a follow on to my first review, you will want to run a 1/4-20 tap through each insert after installation to clean up the threads.

Much better than the oem plastic clips. Like david said, scary to drill into tailgate. The drill bit will want to suck down into the other side of the tailgate which is the scariest part. Be ready to pull back. I would recommend something to deburr the drill holes as well. You will need more than one bolt and nut to install as the begin to wear each other out making it nearly impossible to tighten. A washer may help with that. Other than that great product to get with the reinforcement plate.

I’m using these to install the tailgate skin they sell. The hardware is fine, but the installation method needs work. Just skip the bolt and nut method they suggest. I had a few nut serts go in lopsided and one just didn’t work at all. Best thing to do is buy the correct tool. It’s called a river nut tool and it looks like a big pair of piers. It’s faster and easier. Oh and use a step bit as well.
